  • Excel Level 1 Class Description

    The level 1 class focuses on creating simple spreadsheets and the features commonly used in the process, such as:

    • Excel toolbars and dialog boxes.

    • Excel’s three pointer modes and how they help your productivity.

    • Fill-AutoFill-FlashFill-AutoFill options

    • Keyboard shortcuts for navigating and selecting cells to help you whiz through your work!

    • Correcting data entry errors

    • Gridlines/Borderlines/Underlines

    • Views

    • Basic formulas such as sum, average, high value, low value, calculating percentages, and creating basic formula links, as well as the formula tools to help you.

    • How formulas are affected when copied to other cells: relative and absolute reference. 

    • Math reminder: order of operators

    • Formatting spreadsheets and highlight low and high values with Conditional Formatting.

    • Heading formats: Merge and Center to center text over multiple columns, angled headings, fill color

    • Column and row adjustments, additions, deletions.

    • Setting up headers/footers.

    • Print and page setup for small worksheets: Page Layout ribbon, margins, page orientation, scaling, printing lines

    • Sheet commands.

    • Productivity tips to create similar spreadsheets going forward in time. 

    • Cell notes and cell comments.

    • Quick Analysis tag.

    • Create a fast, easy column chart.

  • Excel Level 2 Class Description

    Level 2 covers Excel’s list/table features. This means working with lists of data, whether that data was manually entered or downloaded from another source.  Topics include:

    • Fill Series dialog box.

    • How Excel recognizes a list or table which unlocks all the features designed to work with lists.

    • Create “visual space” without using blank rows/columns. 

    • Keyboard shortcuts for selecting and navigating lists.

    • Use Find and Find/Replace. 

    • List manipulation:  sorting and filtering.

    • Format as Table

    • Get subtotals from list data.

    • Viewing larger documents, including Freeze Panes, Window Split, Zoom.

    • Viewing multiple lists side by side.

    • Printing lists and larger spreadsheets.  Includes Print Titles, Page Break Preview.

    • Clean-up of messy imported data: Trim function, Paste Special, Text-to-Columns 

    • Hide/Unhide columns/rows.

    • Create reports from your list: Pivot Tables.

    • Conditional formatting: top and bottom rules, data bars.

  • Excel Level 3 Class Description

    Advanced Formulas and More

    • Date/Time Functions and calculations.

    • Text functions.

    • Logical Functions:  IF, SumIF, AverageIf, CountIF, IFERROR, IFNA, and other IF related formulas

    • Vlookup

    • Review of Relative versus Absolute Reference

    • Insert Function dialog box

    • Naming cells and cell ranges

    • Formula link using named cells/ranges

    • Introduction to nested functions.

    • Formula auditing, error checking, Watch Window

    • Line Chart

    • Conditional Formats: by formula, icon sets

  • Excel Level 4 Class Description

    This advanced level is geared to analysts who work with Excel daily. 

    • Create a custom AutoFill

    • Custom Views

    • Saving a workspace of multiple workbooks.

    • What-if Analysis:  Goal Seek, Scenarios

    • Advanced Pivot Tables.

    • Nested formulas:  Nested IF, Index/Match, IF with Vlookup

    • Create custom groups for expanding/collapsing levels of detail

    • Hyperlinks

    • Protecting cells, sheets, and workbooks

    • Create a drop-down list using Data Validation.

    • Create a macro to automate a process. 

    • Using and creating Excel templates
